English for STEAM is a blended course that integrates and puts into practice the four main skills in language—speaking, listening, reading and writing— to prepare students for studies and careers in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. Through in-class activities, hands-on activities and weekly online assignments, students will become more confident in the use of English, especially as it pertains to scientific and technical know-how, topics, and tasks.

Objetivos Especificos

By the end of the course students will:
-Apply reading comprehension strategies such as predicting, skimming and scanning to better analyze, work with, and comprehend text, especially technical ones
-Identify main , thesis and supporting ideas in a text
-Learn and apply listening comprehension techniques such as predicting, listening for the gist vs. details, detecting signposts, inferring meaning, looking for non-verbal cues…
-Write a short simple paragraph/infographic/diagram where they synthesize info
-Successfully communicate ideas (process/opinions) orally with the help of prompts
-Expand their technical and scientific vocabulary
Identify parts of speech (adjectives, verbs, nouns) as an aid to understanding and producing
-Identify and follow the steps of the Engineering Design Process and its important for problem-solving
-Develop teamwork and critical thinking skills to find the solution to a problem in their community.
-Familiarise themselves with tke know-how of 3d printing.

Egresada en 2013. TTC, teacher training Course, Diploma in TESOL, TKT CLIL y TKT young learners. Especializada en: Coaching de alta performance, PNL, inteligencia emocional, Blended Language Learning, Innovación e Inclusión Educativas, Escritura Creativa y Académica. Ingresa al programa de Lenguas UTEC en Septiembre 2022.

Maria Noel Maquieira

Docente Encargada de Inglés del Departamento de Lenguas de UTEC. Referente del Programa de Lenguas en el ITR Centrosur. Egresada del Instituto de Profesores Artigas y Traductora Pública. Docente en instituciones públicas y privadas desde el 2004. Diplomada por la Universidad de Nottingham en el programa Digital Technologies for Language Teaching and Learning.

Victoria Soumastre

Docente de educación media en instituciones públicas y privadas desde 2008. Ex-becaria Fulbright. Docente de español como lengua extranjera en EEUU durante 2015-2016. Docente encargada de inglés en el ITR SO (Mercedes y Fray Bentos). De Mercedes, viviendo en Montevideo. Cursando una Maestría en Metodologías Activas de Enseñanza en UCU.
